Every year in September, the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) conducts a mathematics Olympiad exam for all maths enthusiasts and it is known as the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM). This exam is the beginning step for all those aspiring to be a part of the Indian team for the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) or just to get the experience of olympiad maths.
In our school, the introduction of IOQM is treated with a lot of enthusiasm. All young mathematicians prepare for this exam by spending their post-school hours to study extra curricular maths.
To organise the efforts of the students for their preparation, Sai sir has taken the initiative to start a class called ‘IOQM Prep’. It begins from 6:40 p.m. and continues throughout prep time and ends at 8:00 p.m.
During this class various questions from previous year exams of IOQM are solved and various theory sessions are taken for all the newly introduced topics such as combinatorics and number theory. These classes are like exercise sessions for the brain. These classes have taught us a lot about mathematics and problem solving.
