Geishe Domchoe is a Buddhist monk who was invited to our school to talk about happiness, mental willbeing, attachment, greed etc. He used analogies like the happiness spectrum, Dalai Lama’s teachings to create awareness about how important being happy is for one’s mental and physical health. He spoke about how greed gives temporary happiness and eventually creates a negative feeling of wanting more than what is actually needed and through this he emphasized on simplicity.
He also spoke about how one should be detached from the material world and give more importance to being with yourself and be satisfied by it which is also followed in Buddhism. His objective of taking the whole school assembly was to inform students and teachers how along with academics mental well-being is also important in a person’s overall growth. He ended the assembly on a musical note where he played ‘Behti hawa sa tha woh’ from the movie 3 Idiots.
