Story telling and music listening for the baby in womb Prenatal medical outreach initiative at Primary health center, Wada.
A baby in the womb is highly cognisant and is affected deeply by surroundings. Traditional wisdom of “garbhasanskar” promotes parent-baby bonding before birth through story telling and music listening. Science has proved that almost 80% of brain growth throughout life occurs in the first 1000 days of life i.e 9 months of pregnancy and first 2 years of life. Words and soothing music act as an important stimulus for brain growth which is the foundation of intellectual , emotional, cognitive and behavioral patterns of growing adults.
Though the baby doesn’t understand the meaning, he retains words. It helps in developing language skills early in life. The baby recognizes the mother’s voice and feels secure. The emotional cues in a parent’s voice like warmth, laughter, care, love act as a secondary form of nutrition, building an early emotional dialogue promoting baby bonding . It brings positive hormonal changes in the mother and eventually in the baby, feeling them calm and happy promoting growth, reducing heart rate and stabilizing brain waves.
A medical initiative is being taken up for prenatal ladies at Primary Health center, Wada promoting the traditional practices of Grabhasanskar along with Informative educational awareness sessions.
