Farewell 2026: Class Dismissed

By Maïan Rangad (Grade 11)

Leaving something behind is never easy, especially when you’ve held it so close to your heart for so long. Grades 9 and 11 had this very thing in mind when they were bestowed the honour of organising the farewell celebration for the outgoing batches, grades 10 and 12. Their goal was to give the outgoing batches one of the most memorable times of their ‘Sahyadri life’ and leave them with a lasting memory of the school. The event was planned on the 10th of January and the organizing batches got about 3 weeks to prepare. They were keen to do something new and unique for Sahyadri, and began by organising themselves into different committees. The 3 main committees were the gift committee, event committee and the decor committee.

Farewell

The gifts committee wanted to give these batches gifts that would not only capture the essence of Sahyadri but also be taken back as memorabilia. They decided to gift the outgoing batches a tote bag with a mural representing Sahyadri printed on it, a resin keychain decorated with flowers from all over campus, a mug, a doodled map of the campus with stickers to go along with it, and a Sahyadri t-shirt. The highlight of all these gifts was the Batch Yearbook - a keepsake designed to help every student remember their friends, with personalised pages dedicated to each member of the batch. All of these gifts came alongside a Geet Gunjan and a J Krishnamurti book, “Leaving School, Entering Life” for Grade 10 and “Think on These Things” for Grade 12.

The decoration brought the entire evening alive and the lighting helped make the backdrop look all the more stunning. The beautifully crafted backdrop brought to life the very essence of school nostalgia while the ‘memory lane’ had the batches to walk down and re-live their fondest memories.

It would not be a farewell whatsoever without speeches, songs, performances and games. This part of the event was imagined as a television show, and students who were anchoring the show acted accordingly. Speeches and musical performances by students, many of whom had spent a major chunk of their lives in Sahyadri, brought tears, laughter, joy and nostalgia. Then came the time for the games. The games were organised in the format of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, with a Sahyadri twist and hosted by an imaginary character, ‘Amitabh Bachpana’. There were a number of games played including ‘Guess the Baby’ and ‘Food Relay’. All of these games were good fun, and the outgoing batches had a blast playing them. Dinner and bonfire followed the games.

We hope this day was a memorable and endearing moment for the outgoing batches, who truly deserved a hearty farewell for all that they’ve done for the school.
