Decision Making Workshop - Classes 9 & 11

by Shrinidhi Mahishi (IIT Gandhinagar)

The overall intent was to understand the approach to making any decision and connecting it to oneself. The following are some of the themes we covered with Grades 9 and 11 over 3 sessions:

  • What are some of the big decisions one has to make in life? - Subject choice, college choice, career choice, etc.

  • How should decision-making be vs how it actually is?

  • The difference between a conscious decision and a passive decision

  • Introduction to key terms in the context of decision-making: decision fatigue, analysis paralysis, and the paradox of choice

  • Tools to make decisions to manage time and energy: Urgent-Important Matrix, Time Budgeting, Circle of Control

  • While each of the tools that were introduced was noteworthy, the Circle of Control was really impactful for them. Many of them shared that they realized how much of their time and energy was being spent on matters outside their control.
